Former Contractor, less than 1 year
Pros
Love working at not-for-profits vs. corporate. The people are different. They are working together for a cause!
Cons
None - very satisfied with company & position.

Former Employee, more than 5 years
Pros
The mission is a strong one with a dual purpose. The staff is generally competent.
Cons
The leadership plays favorites for who gets promoted/who is put in charge of work. The leadership spends far too long "weighing" options and not acting when it is clear what needs to happen.

Current Employee, more than 3 years
Volatile Culture
Recommend
CEO Approval
Business Outlook
Pros
The mission and the people
Cons
Reactive leadership who spends time and money on a strategic plan, reviews it ad nauseum, and then throws it out the window.

Current Employee, more than 3 years
No value in employees
Recommend
CEO Approval
Business Outlook
Pros
Good benefits & work from home.
Cons
The organization is very cliqued up. If your not in the in crowd you're completely overlooked. They put more stock in hiring consultants than in their current employees knowledge. No one in the organization ever makes a decision.

Former Employee, more than 1 year
Pros
For entry level persons entering the non profit sector this is a amazing place to get your feet wet! A hard working development team and a programs team that puts their all into there work. It's a great mission and a great team. They have amazing benefits and pay is ok. Opportunities to travel the country and meet and work shoulder to shoulder with the great veterans of our country.
Cons
Senior Leadership may have great intentions but really lack clear vision about the next steps for the organization. "Too many chiefs not enough Indians" A large portion of the organization are titled as "Managers". Organization says they're focused on making a difference in communities but the reality is that they're mostly building benches, picking up trash in the middle of the woods, and doing beach clean ups. I'm clearly generalizing but the bottom line is that they lack the real vision and strategic method to make a difference in the communities that need it most. And we haven't even started talking about how veterans needs have been pushed to the back-burner. Which is the saddest part. For employees, don't plan to stay to long, there is no upward mobility. You might be able to add "Sr." To your title or move laterally but if you think you're going to become a director or a program manager or a Vice President and you were not hired into that position you're going to be setting yourself up for great disappointment.

Cons
pay is below market (my direct supervisor made 180k to my 40k), requires long hours and leadership has no respect for entry level workers
